Being a owner of a house means there are various things that require doing that are not required if one resides in an ant hill city apartment. I've embraced many of these various things as I used to do some of them when I took on more and more of tasks required at my parents "homestead" as they became older.
While he lived in the country home, dad never became "too old" to do anything and he and I often worked as a team to get things done. Dad (with mom) made the decision to move out of the country home to a city apartment long before either became "dottery", although I have a background fear that the move accelerated their journey to old age.
Just writing this down reminds me how much I miss those "get things done" events with dad. More often then not, our events seemed to revolve around fixing the "organic" water supply system. I use organic to give an impression of how iron pipes were replaced with plastic and copper. But not everywhere and not at the same time. The water supply as we left it could be described as a working museum piece of historical water pipe systems all working together. Most of the time.
However, of my memories, one is the best is him and I standing in silence watching a fire burn down to grey embers while the day in turn became darker with the approaching evening. A fire started some hours earlier of broken branches, leaves, old wood, and various other debris. Hours of trimming and hauling to a central location where we always had our outside fires. A satisfying day.
Anyway, I now embrace cutting the lawn for instance. And raking leaves.
And just yesterday, I drilled four longish screws into two panels of the fence AE and I share with M (a recent window) next door. The two panels had come apart and needed to be "cinched" back together. The Agassiz wind did it's best to bring myself (and the fence) to heel, but I persisted (and the fence remains upright - for now).
My previous post seems to match about the time the weather improved and it would not be a stretch to imagine that I simply spend my "free" time outside "puttering".
This post is closely matching the change in weather. Well, it's still sunny (BC is in a drought situation) but the temperature has certainly dropped (and the Agassiz wind seems to be almost constant this time of year) making it not so pleasant outside.
Perhaps these posts will become somewhat more frequent now that I'm likely to be in the house a bit more.
